Ranchi, June 2: Alleging financial irregularities in the renovation of Sikidiri hydel power plant, JMV chief Babulal Marandi today called on Governor Syed Ahmed and urged him to direct the state to set up a high level probe team to investigate.
Submitting a memorandum, the JVM delegation said Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) had given the renovation project to BHEL for Rs 20.87 crore as against the actual cost of only Rs 2.66 crore. The memorandum added that the work was granted without a proper tender.
“We apprehend malpractice. We have urged the Governor to direct the state to set up a high level probe committee with three secretary-level officials, apart from the energy secretary, to look into the issue,” said JVM leader Pradeep Yadav.
Yadav said in 2005, the renovation of the hydel power plant was carried out with an investment of Rs 65 lakh.
Asked to comment, JSEB chairman S.N. Verma said the machines used in Sikidiri have been produced by BHEL. “The machines have not undergone maintenance for years and need overhaul, which requires money. BHEL is a miniratna company which will not accept any overestimate or underestimate,” he said.
