Rs 7lakh for rebel arrest
- DGP honours police, CRPF for netting Naveen Manjhi

Hazaribagh, June 2: Director-general of police G.S. Rath today awarded Rs 7.21 lakh to the jawans and officers of CRPF and district police who captured dreaded CPI(Maoist) zonal commander Naveen Manjhi on May 28.

Rath also felicitated Hazaribagh SP Pankaj Kamboj and CRPF officers of the paramilitary force’s 22nd Battalion, namely R.M. Sampar, second-in-command Mohit Rastogi, deputy commandants M.P. Singh and B.K. Srivastava and assistant commandants Ajay Pal and Mithilesh Pandey.

Besides, he honoured district police DSPs Satyendra Singh (headquarters) and Manjarul Hoda.

SP Kamboj said the state police would also sanction another Rs 10 lakh for the 145 policemen, three companies of CPRF jawans and the officers who were part of the mission.

In his address at the programme in Police Lines, the DGP said proper co-ordination, timely verification of inputs and hard work led to the breakthrough.

Rath said Manjhi’s arrest was a huge achievement, as he had masterminded the killing of policemen and civilians.

“I hope we will witness similar success in future too and our uniformed men will be able to thwart the evil motives of Maoists as well as criminals,” he added.

Rath urged his men to take up their duty with honesty and dedication. “A policeman should be strict in the line of duty but follow the law and always keep human rights in mind. We should work to increase the faith of the aam aadmi in police,” he said.

Meanwhile, enthused by recent success in arresting Maoists with help from people, the state police said in Ranchi they would look for similar co-operation in future promising monetary reward and to keep identities of informers secret, agencies reported.
