Ramya, Talom win

Guwahati, June 1: Arunachal Pradesh boy Mingki Talom and Tamil Nadu girl Ramya N. annexed double crowns in the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament that concluded at Chachal tennis complex today.

Eighth seed Talom, who toppled Bijoy Kumar Mohanty of Assam in the semi-finals yesterday, today shocked second seed Amlanjyoti Baruah of Assam 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 for the under-16 singles title.

Talom last evening partnered Mohanty to get the better of the Assam tandem of Baruah and Abhinandan Das 6-1, 7-5 for the boys’ under-16 doubles crown. In under-16 girls’ singles, eighth seed Ramya overcame fourth seed Maitry Phukan of Assam 6-1, 6-4 for the title. She had last evening partnered Maharashtra girl Rajshree Rathod to beat Phukan and Murchana Saharia of Assam 6-1, 7-5 for the girls’ under-16 doubles title. Ronit Bora of Assam won the under-12 boys’ singles title defeating Khan Bahadur Molia of West Bengal 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 in the final today.

AITA title: Abhinangshu Borthakur of Assam partnered Neeraj Choudhury of West Bengal to beat Deepak Viswakarma and Manish Kumar of Delhi 7-6, 6-3 to lift the under-18 boys’ doubles title in the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament in Calcutta on Friday.
