‘Error’ holds up vehicles

Bolpur, May 31: A “typing error” today put a road running by Visva-Bharati out of bounds for all vehicles.

Police did not allow any four-wheeler, including those carrying tourists, to ply on a 1km road from the Bolpur municipality to Ratan Kuthi following an order from the district magistrate’s office.

The DM had issued the order after Visva-Bharati requested that traffic movement on the road, which leads to Suri, be “restricted”.

Birbhum DM J.C. Meena said because of a “typing error”, the order, dated May 25, mentioned that “movement of heavy-goods vehicle, medium-goods vehicle, light-goods vehicles and passenger-carrying vehicles” would be “strictly prohibited” on the PWD road “from 6am to 6pm”.

Meena said a new order barring only goods vehicles from plying on the road had been sent to the offices of the sub-divisional officer, sub-divisional police officer, regional transport officer and the officer in charge of the Bolpur police station on May 29.
