Aarushi case

Allahabad, May 31 (PTI): Allahabad High Court today rejected the bail plea of Nupur Talwar who along with husband Rajesh is facing trial in the twin murder of her 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.

A special CBI court at Ghaziabad had turned down Nupur’s bail plea earlier this month, after which she had moved the high court. There is prima-facie evidence, the Ghaziabad court had said and ordered framing of charges against the dentist couple.

Air France

New Delhi (PTI): Air France has been directed by a consumer forum to pay Rs 55,000 as damages to a woman for delivering her luggage “in bad shape” 20 days after she arrived in Delhi on a flight from Barcelona

Crash kills 21

Bulandshahar (PTI): Twenty-one people were killed in a collision between a bus and a mini-truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakahooti on Thursday. Seventeen people died on the spot while four succumbed to injuries in hospital, police said.

Jarawa shield

New Delhi (PTI): The government has approved promulgation of a law that provides for the creation of a buffer zone, a 5km radius — around the Jarawa tribal reserve in Andaman and Nicobar islands — and prohibit tourist activities there. Offenders can face a jail term up to seven years.

UK mission

Hyderabad (PTI): A British deputy high commission office was opened here on Thursday. Simon Fraser, permanent under-secretary and head of British diplomatic services, inaugurated the office. He said another office would come up in Chandigarh, bringing the number of British deputy high commissions in India to seven.

Serial killer

Bangalore (PTI): A 20 year-old serial killer who used to target people sleeping in deserted places has been arrested. Poojappa used to crush the heads of his victims with stones and decamp with cash and valuables they had on them.
