Patna, May 31: Two youths travelled all the way from Mumbai to Ara to avenge the assault on their parents at Purhara village under Chauri police station in Bhojpur district, about 100km from here, and ended up killing five persons.
The siblings — Uma Rai and Sunil Rai — knifed their two uncles, an aunt and two cousins to death on Thursday for assaulting their mother Shakuntala Devi and father Bharat Rai. Another cousin of Uma and Sunil is battling for life at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Uma and Sunil, employees of a private firm in Mumbai, have been arrested. Police interrogated them and recovered two knives and a cellphone from a well.
Bhojpur superintendent of police M.R. Naik said: “Both Uma and Sunil reached their native village this morning with two knives and killed five relatives.”
Sources said the siblings reached Purhara village around 7.30am with two knives purchased form a shop in Mumbai. An hour later, they raided the house of Satyendra Rai (50), their uncle. One by one, they stabbed Satyendra, his wife Shanti Rai (45), his three sons Vikas Rai (26), Vijay Rai (23), Akash alias Vicky Rai (20) and his brother Kamlesh Rai (55).
Satyendra, Shanti, Vikas and Kamlesh died on the spot. Vijay passed away at the PMCH. Akash is undergoing treatment at the PMCH.
Naik said Bharat and Shakuntala were brutally assaulted by Satyendra and his two sons, both army personnel, on Tuesday following a dispute over possession of 3.5 bigha of land belonging to Thakurbari (see chart). The couple informed their sons in Mumbai about the incident over phone. Besides Uma and Sunil, Bharat and Shakuntala have also been arrested, he added.
The district police have requisitioned for a forensic experts’ team to collect evidence from the spot. Bloodstained shoes and sticks were recovered from the site of occurrence.
