I was ecstatic. I came in a little late when the Knights were being felicitated with gold chains by Didi. I went over to Juhi (Chawla) and Jay (Mehta) and hugged them. Juhi took me to Shah Rukh. He hugged me and said, “Look at me, I am totally drenched in sweat!”, before thanking me for my support. It was great to see Shah Rukh looking so happy. I had noticed how tense he had been in the last few days till the final and today I saw the child in him, a totally different side of him that I hadn’t witnessed earlier. He might have earned huge success as an actor, but this for him is a new role and a new beginning. It’s his first big success and his joy was totally worthwhile.
On stage, I told Shah Rukh that Dhitang dhitang is a very popular number in Bengali. He responded with “Okay, let’s dance to it then”. Didi too encouraged us. Shah Rukh seemed very happy with our support. He’s such a superstar, but has his own way of connecting with people. I admire the way in which he and Juhi took charge of the team and always came across as very responsible bosses. I just received a message from Juhi, saying she’s very happy that I went to Eden and thanking me for supporting them all through. Of course, I had to go to Eden today. I was going to congratulate them anyway and today seemed to be the right time to meet and greet them. (Gautam) Gambhir still looked a little gambhir (serious), but I have never seen Eden roaring and cheering this way before. Didi, as usual, was so graceful in welcoming everyone and cheering for the team.
