Two held for child’s killing

Almost a week after three-year-old Rishab Rastogi was found dead in suburban Bagbera, the police have cracked the case by arresting two minors.

The two were arrested from their village in Bhagalpur district of Bihar where they had been hiding after the police launched a search.

Those arrested — a 14-year-old and a 12-year-old — are both residents of Bajrang Tekri Road in Jugsalai. While one is a Class VIII student, the other studies in Class V.

The body of the child was found in a sack at Wireless Maidan in Bagbera on the evening of May 21. The child had been gagged after being killed.

The body was sent for post-mortem to MGM mortuary the same night. Rishab’s father Shiva Rastogi, a small-time businessman, filed a complaint against unknown persons with the Bagbera police station in this connection.

Deputy superintendent of police (law and order) Kanhaiya Upadhayay said though barely three-years-old, the victim used foul language while speaking to people.

“Though the murder victim was just three, he would abuse elders, including his own father. It was this habit of his that angered the two accused. One of the two slapped the child, who died with the force of it,” said Upadhayay.

The police officer, however, could not clarify why duo gagged the child. The police suspected the accused of being behind the murder as they disappeared from home almost immediately after the murder.

The two, said to be related, are being interrogated as the police are not convinced about the motive behind the murder.
