CATCH ‘EM YOUNG: It may have touched 40 degrees on May 14 but that didn’t deter these kids from teeing off at noon for the third leg of the Tata Steel IGU East Zone Sub-Junior Tour 2012 (Under-18). Held at The Tollygunge Club, at the end of the day, the winners were called on stage and handed over their prizes. “Golf as a game is just starting off in India and Asia and in the next decade, it’s going to keep growing. These regional sub-tours are a stepping stone. The ideal thing is to have a good golfing academy,” said Farzan R. Heerjee of TATA Steel and an IGU council member. Tour manager Brandon de Souza, who won the junior national championship in 1978, encouraged the kids throwing in a word on discipline: “You can’t be any good as a player without knowing the rules”. The tourney that kicked off in Jamshedpur will now move to Royal Calcutta Golf Club on May 23-24 for the fourth leg. Stay tuned!
