Clash: family flees
Siliguri, May 20: A Pradhannagar resident had to flee with his family and his motorcycle was set afire today in a sequel to a road accident involving his two-wheeler.
Sources said Rajib Das, a resident of Pradhannagar, had slapped a family member of Biswanath Sharma after the latter’s motorcycle had hit a person yesterday evening. Police rushed to the spot and settled the issue. However, Sharma’s family members attacked Das and his relatives this morning and other residents took side with the latter. Sharma fled the locality with his family and his motorcycle was torched by the local people. The police brought the situation under control and arrested Biswanath.
Malda: Ten shops selling illegal alcohol were destroyed by over 100 women at Lakkhipur Colony near here on Sunday. The women also set up a blockade on the Malda-Manikchak highway for an hour, alleging that police had failed to take action against hooch sellers despite requests.
