Panel on power parts
New Delhi, May 20: The power ministry has set up a panel to collect data on imported equipment, especially from China, that are being used at different plants. Many power projects are running on overseas equipment and some of the developers have placed big orders, especially with Chinese firms, for upcoming plants. After collating data, the performance of overseas gears will be evaluated.
Foodgrain
Mumbai, May 20: The country’s foodgrain production is projected to grow 0.6 per cent to 247.6 million tonnes (mt) in 2012-13 from 246.2 mt in 2011-12 on the back of a modest growth in the output of rice and wheat and a recovery in the production of coarse grains and pulses, the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy said.
Steel demand
Mumbai, May 20: Despite an uncertain global economic environment and a slowdown in the domestic economy, steel demand is likely to clock a 7.5-8 per cent growth in the current financial year, analysts and officials say.
Reliance Life
New Delhi, May 20: Reliance Life Insurance Company, part of the Anil Ambani group, has reported first full-year net profit at Rs 373 crore for the fiscal ended March 31. In 2010-11, the company had suffered a net loss of Rs 129 crore.
