Murder accused gives up

Patna, May 19: Another accused in the Saket Gupta murder case, Mukesh Singh, surrendered before a Patna City court today.

On May 15, liquor trader Pramod Kumar, alias Pramod Yadav, had surrendered in the court. Gupta, the cousin of a director-general rank officer, Ashok Kumar Gupta, was shot by unidentified criminals in the parking lot of Kumhrar Park, where he went for a morning stroll on May 7.

Mukesh, a resident of Sipara, surrendered before the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM), Patna City, who later remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days. Mukesh originally hails from Jehanabad district.

Patna City sub-divisional police officer Sushil Kumar said the police would take Mukesh on remand for interrogation in the case. “The investigating officer has been asked to complete the legal formalities for the purpose,” he said, adding Mukesh is among the eight named accused in the murder case.

Kumar said four accused have so far either surrendered or have been arrested. “It was due to mounting police pressure that two of them surren-dered,” he said. Pramod was taken in police remand for four days for questioning.
