Class boycott
Jorhat, May 16: Students of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday boycotted classes and staged a demonstration against alleged forcible entry into the boys’ hostel by local goons on Tuesday night. The goons, allegedly led by the in-charge of the police outpost on the campus, accused the students of eve-teasing and threatened them with dire consequences if they dared to venture out. Jorhat MLA Rana Goswami resolved the issue after promising that action would be taken against the said police personnel and more security would be provided to them.
Rebel arrested
Kokrajhar: An NDFB cadre Rafwt Goyary, 32, was apprehended by security forces from Karigaon here on Tuesday evening. Pistol, ammunition and extortion notes were seized from him.
Thief held
Kokrajhar: Kokrajhar police arrested a bike-lifter, Moinul Ali, 22, of Guwahati from Gossaigaon. Ali confessed to lifting over 17 bikes from different areas in Guwahati and later selling those in the lower Assam districts, including Kokrajhar. The police later arrested Ali’s associate Nijwm Muchahary, 31, of Kachugaon Sudempuri from his residence.
