New Delhi: Leading Dutch coach Raymond Libregts could become the coach of India’s under-22 squad for the Asian championship, according to All India Football Federation (AIFF) sources.
Presently the coach of PSV Eindhoven under-19 team, the 46-year-old Libregts arrived in the capital on Monday and immediately left for Bangalore to have a look at the under-22 boys.
From Bangalore, the Dutch coach would be going to Calcutta to see the Pailan Arrows team.India are participating in the Asian under-22 qualifiers to be held in Muscat. The tournament starts on June 23.
An AIFF official, however, said Libregts’ appointment has not yet been confirmed.
“He has come to India to get a first-hand knowledge about our junior boys and other facilities. A final decision would be taken some time later,” he said.
Incidentally, Raymond’s father, Thijs is considered a big name in the Netherlands coaching world.
After coaching the Holland national team for two years between 1988 and 1990, Thijs was also the national coach of Nigeria in 1998-99.
