Angul: A 25-year-old unmarried woman was raped and murdered allegedly by a fellow villager at a forest near Madhupur village in the Bantala police station area in the district. The accused is absconding. The victim had gone to the forest on Monday to collect mangoes. When she was on her way back home, she was allegedly raped and murdered. “We have identified the culprit as the police dog led us to his house and provided some vital clues,” said Angul police superintendent Satyabrata Bhoi.The accused is absconding.
Jajpur: A woman has accused the block development officer (BDO) of Rasulpur of trying to molest her when she approached him with a grievance. She said she had gone to the BDO’s office to find out why her name had been deleted from a central government-sponsored scheme, when the man allegedly tried to molest her.
Berhampur: Tension prevailed at the Berhampur district hospital on Tuesday after a piece of plaster measuring about nine inches fell off the ceiling. The piece fell on the bed of a woman who delivered a baby on Tuesday morning. Although she escaped unhurt, patients and their attendants held protests.

Talcher: Angry locals blocked a road in Talcher on Tuesday morning after a speeding truck ran down a man. The deceased, an employee at a coal factory, was on his way to the office on his bike when the mishap occurred. Local residents blocked the road demanding compensation for the victim.
Bhubaneswar: The revenue administration on Tuesday took possession of 86 acres of prime land located along the Puri-Konark marine drive close to the Ramachandi temple. The said plot, which was earlier fraudulently recorded in the name of a few persons, was declared by a member of the Board of Revenue to be owned by the government.
