The grand finale of the first ever Sananda Nihar Samman awards were held at Hotel Hindusthan International on Friday evening. Women achievers from Bengal were crowned in six categories — Sucharu (performing arts), Sulalita (fine arts), Sukriti (social service), Proyashee (entrepreneurship), Kushali (sport) and Pragya (academics). Two awards were given in each category — Nabinaa (for newcomers) and Janapriyaa (for those already well-recognised in their field).
“It is wonderful to see new and deserving women getting a platform because of Sananda. For us, as the jury, it was a very difficult task to choose the Nabinaas, as there are so many women who have done such great work. In some cases, we had long discussions on every point before we picked the finalists,” said danseuse Alokananda Roy.
The felicitation was punctuated with performances by dance group Rhythmosaic and music by Lopamudra Mitra.
