Raipur, May 13: Maoists killed six CISF jawans travelling in a Jeep and their civilian driver in Dantewada on Sunday night.
The ambush, around 9pm, happened half a kilometre from Kirandul, the township where the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) plant is located.
The six jawans of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were on their way to the plant site just before change of shift when the Maoists opened fire at the vehicle.
The jawans did not get any time to take position and retaliate.
The civilian who died was the Jeep’s driver, said Bastar inspector-general of police T.J. Langkumer.
The rebels took away the weapons of the six securitymen.
Additional forces from Kirandul reached the spot around 11pm.
Till then, the bodies were lying on the spot.
