Shop fire in city

Calcutta, May 12: A fire broke out in a car showroom off VIP Road this evening, the thick smoke sparking panic among residents in the congested area.

The fire spread to a décor shop on the first floor of the six-storey building. Ten fire tenders doused the blaze in two hours. No one suffered injuries, nor was any car damaged.

CPM outfit

Jalpaiguri: The CPM on Saturday floated an unit of the Adivasi Adhikar Raksha Manch in Jalpaiguri to mobilise the support of tribals against the inclusion of mouzas from the Dooars in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.

Bus topples

Calcutta: A speeding minibus carrying 27 people hit a divider in Salt Lake Sector V and overturned on Saturday night. Police said the bus was trying to avert another minibus that overtook it from the wrong side. The passengers were taken to Bidhannagar sub-division hospital.
