Gold chain snatched

A youth on a bicycle snatched a gold chain from a morning-walker at Parnasree on Thursday morning.

According to police, 20-year-old homemaker Rupa Naskar was walking along a lane off Diamond Harbour Road around 6am when the youth came from behind and snatched her chain. Taking advantage of the deserted lane, the culprit managed to flee.

Rupa raised an alarm immediately after the incident. “There was no one around who could chase the snatcher. Residents came out from their houses but the culprit had fled by then,” said an officer of Parnasree police station.

A preliminary investigation suggested the snatcher was from a nearby locality. “He was not from a distant place because he was riding a bicycle. We are raiding various places in Parnasree and adjoining areas and hope to catch the snatcher shortly,” said another police officer.
