Nightingale Award for Odia nurse

Bhubaneswar: An Odia nurse will be the recipient of the National Florence Nightingale Award, 2012. Udasi Sahoo, working under Childa Community Health Centre of Patna Block in Keonjhar, will receive the award from the President on May 12 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. She will receive a cash reward of Rs 50,000, a certificate and a medal. She has conducted 309 institutional deliveries during last one year. She was able to identify 34 high risk pregnancies, managing 32 herself in the tribal dominated area where she works. She was able to save at least 10 neonatal lives by her intervention.

Bhubaneswar: Surendra Panwar, IPS of 1987 batch, took charge as the director (vigilance) on Wednesday. Panwar has worked as special secretary, home department, and he was inspector general of police (vigilance).

Cop inaction

Bhubaneswar: Three former caretakers of the Manjari Sishu Bhavan, a Keonjhar-based orphanage, on Wednesday approached the State Commission of Women alleging sexual harassment by the director of the organisation. The women alleged that they were removed from their jobs as they had opposed advances made by the director. The local police did not take any action against the accused.

Clash deaths

Bhubaneswar: Two persons were killed and five injured following a clash at Bonai in Sundergarh. The clash was because of suspected witchcraft, said police. The two groups attacked each other with sharp-edged weapons. he deceased have been identified as Bhanu and Kombher. Injured have been shifted to the district hospital.
