Diplomat daughter

New York, May 8: An Indian vice-consul’s daughter who was jailed for a day and suspended from school on suspicion of sending obscene emails to her teacher has filed a suit against the city of New York and the authorities of the Queens John Browne High School, seeking $1.5 million in damages .

Krittika, 18, the daughter of Debashish Biswas, was detained in February last year.

Lucknow (PTI): A packet containing a sulphur-based powder and believed to be poisonous was found on the arrested former chief medical officer A.K. Shukla. The CBI arrested him on Sunday for allegedly being a part of the conspiracy in the murder of his predecessor Vinod K. Arya in 2010 and for involvement in a health scam.

Mumbai (PTI): Bombay High Court has observed that married women should take a cue from Sita, who followed Ram in his exile, while hearing a divorce petition filed by a man on the ground that his wife refused to relocate to his new place of work.

The Calcutta-based appellant works with the Shipping Corporation and had been on ship duty since his marriage in 2000. His wife continued to stay in Mumbai, her home town. In 2005 when he was given a land posting at Port Blair she refused to relocate.

They should reunite for the sake of their nine-year-old daughter , the bench said and posted the matter for further hearing on June 21.

Terror cuffs

Bangalore (PTI): An alleged Indian Mujahideen operative has been arrested in Bihar in connection with the blast near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in April 2010 that injured 15 people. Mohammad Khafeel, picked from Darbhanga, is an associate of the top Indian Mujahideen operative Yasin Bhatkal, police have said.
