The Singapore Flyer will be the venue for the first cocktail and dinner of Beyond Boundaries 2012

It is time for Xaverians all across the world to meet up once again — to bond, reminisce and brainstorm — on foreign shores. This time, it’s destination Singapore!
The third chapter of Beyond Boundaries, the annual international convention of St. Xavier’s College Calcutta Alumni Association (SXCCAA), promises to be both fun and work.
“Beyond Boundaries is not just about having fun. We also want to do something for our home state,” said Firdausul Hasan, the honorary secretary of SXCCAA.

The star attraction of the three-day convention, Beyond Boundaries 2012, in Singapore is Usha Uthup (above), who will perform on May 13. She will later jam with percussionist Bickram Ghosh (above left), a Xaverian. Also on the cards are a dance recital by Bickram’s wife Jaya Seal Ghosh (left) and a performance by Xaverian duo Soumyojit Das and Sourendro Mullick of You & I, an Indian traditional and modern music fusion band, on May 12. |
In keeping with the sentiment, the three-day convention, hosted by the Singapore Chapter of SXCCAA, will kickstart with a business meet on May 11. West Bengal industries minister Partha Chatterjee will lead a team of industrialists, bureaucrats and academics to make a pitch for business opportunities in West Bengal in the session titled Beautiful Bengal. Serious business out of the way, it will be time for Xaverians from various chapters — London, Bangladesh, Dubai, Bangkok, Calcutta, Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore — to catch up over cocktails and dinner at the Singapore Flyer, the giant Ferris wheel.
Day Two begins with a prayer and the traditional Lion Dance, to be followed by a talk session by Xaverians.
The Global Xaverian Award, instituted in 2011 in Dubai, will be given to industrialist L.N. Mittal.
On Day Three, the band of boys will brainstorm on forging The Road Ahead, building on what has happened in the past year.
The highlight of the final day will be a performance by Usha Uthup and her troupe, topping it off with a jam session with percussionist and Xaverian Bickram Ghosh.
The Xaverians are looking forward to outdoing each other in bidding for an autographed cricket bat donated by another Xaverian, Sourav Ganguly, at a fun auction.
“Beyond Boundaries is a good way to renew old bonds among Xaverians and of Xaverians with their alma mater. We expect a huge participation this year as well,” said Father Felix Raj, the college principal and president of SXCCAA.
