Goons beat up NTPC official

Angul, May 5: Some unidentified goons today assaulted deputy general manager (human resource department) of Talcher Thermal Power Station P. Shreedhar at the power station colony.

The power station is a unit of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. Shreedhar was rushed to a local government hospital following the assault. The attack took place despite the colony being guarded by the Central Industrial Security Force jawans.

“This incident occurred around 9am today when the deputy general manager was on his way to his office in his car. The vehicle was waylaid by five to six youths armed with lathis near the colony market. They dragged him out of the vehicle and assaulted him,” said E. Balkrishna, a power station official.

He said the goons also beat a security personnel. Senior police officials have launched a hunt for the culprits.

“We are looking for the culprits. An FIR has been lodged in colliery police station in this connection,” said inspector in charge of the police station Bhabani Udgata.

Sources said this could be the fallout of widespread discontent against the power station management at the peripheral villages over lack of community development for the residents.
