Thiruvananthapuram, May 5 : A former CPM leader was murdered in Kozhikode last night.
T.P. Chandrasekharan, who was riding a motorcycle, was waylaid at Vallikad around 10.30pm and attacked with crude bombs, swords and axes. Post-mortem reports said he suffered over 50 wounds. Another former CPM leader, who walked out of the party in 2008, was murdered in Kozhikode last night.
Kochi (PTI): Italian ship Enrica Lexie has got the release order from Kerala High Court to leave Indian shores after its owner paid a bond of Rs 3 crore. The ship was ordered to stay docked in Kochi on February 15 after two Marines on board shot dead two Kerala fishermen, mistaking them for pirates.
Jaipur (PTI): Rajasthan BJP’s Vasundhara Raje on Saturday threatened to quit the party, objecting to a political campaign proposed by senior leader Gulabchand Kataria.
At a state party core committee meeting, Raje said she would resign if Kataria did not withdraw his Lok Jagran yatra, after which Kataria announced he would not go ahead with it.
Raje is understood to have objected to Kataria’s plan, seen by a section in the BJP as a move to project himself as the chief ministerial face ahead of next year’s Assembly elections. Kataria was Rajasthan home minister in Raje’s earlier government.
Hyderabad (PTI): The moon will be closest to the earth on Sunday at 9.05pm than on any other night in 2012 and hence it will appear larger. The phenomenon, called supermoon, coincides with Buddha Purnima this year . The distance between the earth and the moon will be 3,56,955km and the angular size of the moon will be 0.5515°, scientists said.
Salem (PTI): A lifer suffering from AIDS has said he will write to the President and Tamil Nadu governor pleading for mercy killing. He said there were no medicines in Salem Central prison for his treatment. He was sentenced to life for kidnapping and murdering a man from Salem on April 12, 2002.
