Sunit wins Tata golf meet

Jamshedpur, May 5: Sunit Chowrasia built on his overnight lead of three shots to score 14-over 156 and walk home as the winner of the second leg of the Tata Steel- Indian Golf Union East Zone sub-junior Tour.

The tourney, which concluded at the Golmuri Golf Course today, saw Viraj Khanna scoring 159 to clinch the second spot.

Gurkirat Singh, who topped in Category B, clinched the third spot in the event with a two-round total of 161, of which 78 were scored in the final day.

Hashan Rahman, too, played some consistent golf to top the score board in Category C with a total of 154. Devansh Chadha finished runner-up in the category with an aggregate of 162 while Bibek Sardar had to be content with the third spot with a score of 163.

In Category D, however, Sandeep Yadav claimed the honours with a total of 164 while Rajib Ali managed 169 to finish second. Khushboo Sinha emerged as the champion in the girl’s category carding 173.

Sunit, who had an excellent first round, seemed not to be in his elements today. The youngsters is suspected to have got complacent with his three shot lead, but experts said that the conditions on the green were tough with a heavy winds determining the direction of the ball most of the time.
