Trinamul leader killed
Malda, May 3: A Trinamul Congress leader was shot and hacked to death in Manikchak today allegedly by a rival faction in the party.
Subhas Mondal, 40, had gone to Chowrasta More at Shahbazpur to take tea when a group of seven-eight people attacked him with choppers. They also shot him in the head with a pipe gun. Shahbazpur gram panchayat pradhan and Congress leader Malik Mian said two local factions of Trinamul had a dispute over the control of the area for quite some time. He alleged that the incident was a fall-out of the rivalry.
District Trinamul Congress president Sabitri Mitra, however, denied that Subhas was a party worker. “The murder was a sequel to a gang rivalry. It has nothing to do with politics. No Trinamul worker was involved in the murder,” she said. District superintendent of police Jayanta Pal said the killers had been identified.
