Outfit demand
Guwahati, May 3: A delegation of Assam Public Work, a non-political outfit, on Thursday met Sambhu Singh, joint secretary (Northeast) in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum to home minister P.C. Chidambaram. Expressing concern over the abnormal rise in the number of electorates in the state, the outfit demanded scientific update of the National Register of Citizens, 1951.
Blockade
Jorhat: Activists of All Assam Chutia Students’ Union today blocked the National Highway 37 at Kakajan for two hours and staged a demonstration in front of Lahowal police station, demanding ST status for the Chutia community.
