Dwayne to join Mumbai

Calcutta: The Mumbai Indians have signed Dwayne Smith as a replacement for Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson. The West Indies allrounder would be joining his IPL team on Thursday.

“Mumbai Indians have signed West Indies allrounder Dwayne Smith as replacement for Mitchell Johnson. The Australian fast bowler was ruled out to play IPL by Cricket Australia due to injury,” a Mumbai Indians statement said.

Dhoni view

Chennai: Mahendra Singh Dhoni has rubbished talks about his retirement plans in 2013, saying his comments made during the Australian tour were “blown out of proportion”.

Dhoni had then said that he may retire from Test cricket if he was to play in the 2015 World Cup. On Wednesday, he said he will decide about the retirement depending upon his fitness.

Daley in top-5

Calcutta: West Indies’ Shanel Daley has broken into the top five women’s all-rounders’ list in the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Rankings which were released at the conclusion of the three-match ODI series between West Indies and Sri Lanka women. The West Indies women won the series 2-1.

Calcutta: Gurkirat Singh emerged as the overall champion in the junior boys category (A&B) in the first leg of the Tata Steel IGU East Zone Sub Junior Tour at the Beldih Golf Club in Jamshedpur on Wednesday. Gurkirat carded four-over 76 for a two-round total of 156.
