Priti-Dushmant counselling fails

Priti Mohanty and Dushmant Panda

Bhubaneswar, May 2: Counsellors of actor Dushmant Panda and model and journalism student Priti Mohanty today submitted their report in the family court after attempts at counselling the duo failed.

The court will consider the report when it comes up for hearing on July 24.

The report was supposed to be presented before the court on April 20 but was deferred.

The 24-year-old model had filed a petition on November 29 last year before the family court seeking conjugal rights with the actor. She had alleged that Dushmant had ditched her to marry actress Kajal Mishra. The court agreed to hear the case on December 7 last year.

Following procedure, the court had instructed Dushmant and Priti to undergo counselling to settle the matter. However, the counselling failed, as neither of them was ready to settle the matter outside court.

“The counsellors presented their written report before the court today. The next dates for hearing has been fixed as July 24 and 25,” said Pravat Panda, Priti’s advocate.

Dushmant’s lawyer Subhransu Das said both parties were present today before the family court and the counsellors. “As my client had never married the woman, there was no need to settle the matter. We have all the evidence and will present them before the court when required,” said Das.

The civil court will hear the petition filed by Priti on May 10.

Priti had filed a petition in the civil court on March 29. She had sought for the marriage between actor Dushmant Panda and actress Kajal Mishra to be declared void. She had also filed an interim application asking the court to direct them not to live as husband and wife till the result of the petition was out.

Earlier, Priti’s lawyer had filed the same petition before the family court, but the matter did not fall under the purview of this court, because of which her lawyer filed the same petition in the civil court.

Priti had alleged that the actor had ditched her after “living in” with her for more than two years to marry Kajal. Dushmant and Kajal tied the knot in November last year in spite of Priti staging a demonstration at the wedding reception venue.

Priti had also lodged a complaint against the actor with the Mahila police.
