Anirban shoots 1-under

Seoul: Anirban Lahiri shot a one-under 71 to be placed tied seventh on a wind-swept opening day at the Ballantine's Championship, here on Thursday.

Lahiri, fifth last week at the Indonesian Masters, was three strokes off the leader Frenchman Victor Dubuisson (68).

Jeev Milkha Singh (72) was lying tied 18th while SSP Chowrasia was at 41st.

Things did not pan out well for Shiv Kapur, who shot 76, including a triple bogey on par-4 fourth, and Jyoti Randhawa also returned a card of 76 after being even for front nine. Both were tied 74th.

Om sole leader

Pune: Om Prakash Chouhan returned a solid four-under-68 to take a three-stroke lead in round three of the PGTI Players Championship, here on Thursday. The Mhow-based golfer now has a total of 13-under-203.

Up one spot

Singapore: The Indian team moved one place up to fifth spot with a two-day total of 300 to present itself a chance of a podium finish at the Tanah Merah Country Club Garden, here on Thursday. Defending champions Korea were runaway leaders at 277.

Dante move

Moenchengladbach: Borussia Moenchengladbach defender Dante has confirmed his long-rumoured transfer to Champions League finalist Bayern Munich as of next season.

Xavi injury

Madrid: Barcelona playmaker Xavi will be out of action for around 15 days with a damaged left calf muscle.

Weightlifting

New Delhi: India’s chances of grabbing a London berth in weightlifting suffered a blow as their main medal hope, Katulu Ravi Kumar, finished sixth in men’s 69kg category on the third day of the Senior Asian Weightlifting Championships at Pyeongtaek, South Korea, on Thursday.

In men’s 77kg category, Sivalingam Sathish Kumar finished eighth.

Majola probe

Johannesburg: Suspended Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola faces a criminal probe and a civil claim for the repayment of illegal bonuses allegedly paid to him by the Indian Premier League. “A civil process will be launched by CSA....The Hawks (South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation) have also been to CSA and are in the process of their investigation,” sports minister Fikile Mbalula said.

Walia stable

Mohali: The condition of Punjab Cricket Association’s joint secretary, GS Walia, who suffered a cardiac attack on the eve of Kings XI Punjab’s match against Mumbai Indians here, is stable, PCA secretary MP Pandove informed on Thursday.

Razzaq contract

Karachi: Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has signed a contract with English county side Leicestershire for this season after being ignored by the national selectors.
