Tigress dies

Jorhat, April 25: The carcass of a female Royal Bengal tiger was recovered from the Hanuman camp area of the Kaziranga National Park today. Forest officials claimed that it was a case of natural death.

Two held

Jorhat: Two poachers, Rupam Kutum and Monoj Pegu, were arrested by the KNP authorities from Panbari village on Wednesday.

Attack

Dibrugarh: Three persons, Raju Gogoi, Kamal Gogoi and Hemanta Chetia, were injured by a leopard at Dibruwal village on Tuesday when they had gone to a cattle-shed to save a goat.

Murder

Jorhat: Manju Samasi, of Bhelaguri Rajabari, allegedly killed her husband Birsa Majhi on Tuesday night following a quarrel at a relative’s place at Balijan.

Accident

Jorhat: Three persons died in a road accident at Mybelia village in the district on Tuesday. Bikash Gogoi and Amarjyoti Duarah, both on motorbikes, died on the spot when their bikes collided. Amarjyoti Duarah, who was pillion riding with Duarah, died later.

Action plea

Guwahati: The All Assam Unnayan Parishad on Wednesday demanded strict actions against non-banking financial companies which are operating in the state without permission from Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The parishad said that a team led by its president Mousum Ujir and general secretary Amar Rajkhowa had recently met RBI officials, which had informed that no companies were given permission to collect money from people.

Public rally

Guwahati: The Garo National Council and three other non-Rabha organisations on Wednesday, organised a public rally in Goalpara, about 100-km from here, demanding exclusion of all non-Rabha villages from the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council and creation of a separate Garo Autonomous Council in Assam. The general secretary of the council Xavier Sangma said that about 7, 000 people joined the rally.

Takes charge

Guwahati: Air commodore JV Paul, took over as air officer commanding, Air Force Station, Jorhat on Wednesday from air commodore TK Sinha. A handing taking over parade was held on the occasion. Air Commodore JV Paul is an alumnus of National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the air force as a transport pilot in 1983.
