A businessman from Jharkhand on Monday complained that Rs 2 lakh had been stolen from his room at a star hotel in Calcutta.
Jitesh Rajpal, 35, a hotel owner in Deogarh, had checked into The Park on Park Street on Monday. He told officers of Park Street police station that he was away between 1pm and 6.30pm for a business meeting. Rajpal said he had kept Rs 3.1 lakh in a safe inside his room but had taken out Rs 1.1 lakh. He said he hadn’t locked it.
When he returned at 6.30pm, the money was gone. The police were called.
“The matter is being investigated,” the hotel’s spokesperson told Metro.
Two members of the cleaning staff have been detained. “We will determine how the door was opened,” said joint commissioner of police (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh.
