‘KLO militant’ arrested

Siliguri, April 19: Kharibari police arrested a suspected KLO militant and another youth from Panitanki along the India-Nepal border today.

The police said Sudip Sarkar alias Pintu Barua alias Pavel Singh is a trained militant of the outfit. He is a resident of Kumarganj in South Dinajpur. Sudip was trained in Bangladesh in the sixth batch and and was going to Nepal with Kachalu Singh, who has also been picked up. Kachalu is a resident of Kharibari block in Siliguri subdivision. Few cellphones and some documents have been seized from them, the police said. Syed Waquar Raza, the additional superintendent of police, Siliguri, said the arrested persons will be produced in the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate here tomorrow.


Storm death

Alipurduar: Tuli Roy, 52, a resident of Subhash Nagar, was killed when a tree fell on her house during a hailstorm in Madarihat-Birpara block on Thursday evening. Hundreds of houses including two high schools were damaged in the storm. The hailstorm hit the area around 6.30pm and continued for 15 minutes. The block administration said electricity supply has been hit and it would take at least seven days to restore the services.


Fake notes

Malda: One person was arrested from here on Thursday and fake notes with a face value of Rs 3 lakh were recovered from him. District police chief Jayanta Pal said Alamgir Hussain, a resident of Jainpur, was picked up from an eatery near Rabindra Bhawan.
