Bhubaneswar, April 18: The directorate of technical education and training has extended the sale and receipt of application forms of diploma entrance test (DET) 2012 to April 30, much to the respite of engineering schools of the state.
Earlier, the deadline for sale and submission of completed application forms for the said examination was announced to be April 16 that clashed with the dates of HSC examination that was rescheduled from April 17 to April 26.
The state’s engineering schools have been experiencing seat crisis for some time. More than 50 per cent seats were left vacant for the two consecutive years.
The entrance test is scheduled to be held on May 13 for admission into various diploma engineering courses offered by 90 government and private engineering polytechnics in the state.
“The aspirants can purchase the DET-2012 application forms from all the 12 government, 80 private engineering schools and polytechnics and 14 industrial training centres and other institutions of the state,” said a notification by the directorate.
While about 25 per cent seats were filled up through second DET in 2010, the department refused a second DET in 2011. “The decision made us lose several interested students. This year we expect the department understands our situation and allows a second DET,” said secretary of the Odisha Private Engineering Schools’ Association Saroj Kumar Sahoo.
The engineering schools have also demanded the implementation of All India Council for Technical Education All India Council for Technical Education rule that 10th pass candidates with 35 per cent marks are eligible to take admission to diploma engineering courses.
Apart from this, the colleges have requested the department of employment, technical education and training to establish a central placement cell that will help the students find suitable jobs.
