CAROM AND DARTS CHAMPS

On Sunday evening, the eighth floor of Hindusthan Club was abuzz with activity as the young and young-at-heart participated in two sport activities that seldom make it to any sports carnival — carom and darts. The two-month-long Hindusthan Club Sports Carnival, held in association with The Telegraph, saw some serious talent unleashed on Sunday.

Swish and swoosh… the darts flew across the room, often hitting bullseye, as Gaurang Bhatt took home the crown in the finals. Having beaten 30 participants to bag the top place in the open event, dart-er Gaurang was gushing with excitement. “I used to play the game just for fun, I didn’t expect to win. But it is great to see that the club is trying to encourage sporting activities among members, particularly the young,” said the 55-year-old businessman.

When it came to conquering the carom queen, Arjun Kakkad took the top slot in the Under-18 Male Singles finals. The other winners included Jai Kamdar and Viraj Kamdar (Under-18 Male Doubles), Manish Kamdar (Above-18 Male Singles), Juhi Kamdar (Ladies Singles) and Juhi Kamdar with Shalini Sethi (Ladies Doubles).

The next round of the Hindusthan Club Sports Carnival (on till April 26), will see members sweat it out for the table tennis finals on April 20.
