Rebels escape
Jorhat, April 16: Police last night raided the house of Dehiram Arandhara of Jabaka Buragaon under Sonari police station in Sivasagar district on being informed that the militants of the Paresh Barua faction were taking shelter there. The rebels escaped, but the police recovered a mobile handset, fusewire, one battery, a voltmeter, three explosive sticks and a few extortion notes.
Doctor dies
Jorhat: Ajit Kumar Goldsmith, former medical superintendent of Jorhat Mission Hospital and a popular doctor of Jorhat, died here on Monday. He was 80.
Leopard caged
Jorhat: A male leopard was caged on Sunday night at Kasajan tea estate under Titabar forest beat. The leopard is believed to be the same big cat that had attacked a woman labourer of the garden on April 10 following which the labourer died of her injuries.
Houses burnt
Nagaon:Three houses were gutted in Haibargaon of Nagaon around 8.30pm on Sunday. One person was injured in the blaze. Sources said a kerosene stove blast caused the fire.
