Ambani lift

Mumbai, April 12 (PTI): An elevator at the Wankhede Stadium built for the use of industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his family was demolished today as it was constructed without the permission of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, its PRO Vijay Khabale said.

The Mumbai Cricket Association had given permission to Ambani, who owns the IPL team Mumbai Indians, to build the elevator subject to clearances from civic authorities, sources said.

No-drink vow

New Delhi (PTI): A man sentenced to seven days for drink driving has been spared the prison term after he promised neither to drive nor consume “alcohol or any other intoxicant” for six months.

Poll candidate

New Delhi (PTI): A Shiv Sena candidate in the upcoming civic polls was on Thursday stabbed by unidentified assailants. Police claimed it appeared to be a fallout of personal rivalry. Sunil Kumar, 25, suffered “superficial” injuries, a police officer said. BJP candidate Madhav Prasad had been earlier arrested with two others for allegedly stabbing to death a party worker in a separate case.

Quota rush

New Delhi (PTI): The government has decided to speed up the process of filling up vacancies reserved for SCs, STs, OBCs and people with disabilities. The department of personnel and training has asked all departments to give details of existing vacancies, officials said.

Cancer wing

Chennai (PTI): The Tamil Nadu government will prepare a cancer registry to collect details of all such patients. It also proposed setting up two cancer care centres at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore. Health and family welfare minister V.S. Vijay gave the information on Thursday.
