A 40-year-old contract labourer, who was stabbed by his cousin on Monday night after a tiff over sharing of mess expenses, succumbed to his injuries at Tata Main Hospital on Wednesday.
Burmamines resident Gauri Shankar Yadav, who originally hailed from Uttar Pradesh, had sustained a gash on his thigh, to which he succumbed during treatment. Gauri Shankar’s cousin Dinesh Yadav is said to have fled the scene after the attack.
Officer in charge of Burmamines police station J.P.N. Chowdhury said that Gauri Shankar and his cousin Dinesh stayed at a rented house at Carriage Colony.
“Gauri Shankar had allegedly chided his cousin before dinner on Monday night for not being able to cough up his share of expenses,” Chowdhury said.
He added that the duo then had a heated argument after which Dinesh attacked his cousin.
Gauri Shanker, who worked for Larsen and Toubro, lay bleeding in his residence throughout the night without any medical attention.
Some of the victim’s colleagues noticed him in the morning and rushed him to MGM Medical College and Hospital. The police later shifted him to Tata Main Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Chowdhury said that the police had registered a case of murder based on a statement given by Gauri Shanker’s father Rajkishore Yadav.
