Tarun steers Uripok to win

Imphal, April 10: Tarun Singh’s all-round performance helped Uripok Cricket Club come up with a six-wicket victory against Cachar Road Athletic Union Khanam Leirak in the MCA Classification Tournament at Luwangpokpa cricket ground today.

Chasing a target of 118 runs set by the Cachar Road team, the Uripok Cricket Club middle order batsmen flourished with Tarun Singh hitting a useful knock of 28 runs and claiming three wickets.

Lenin Singh and Demin Singh remained unbeaten with 36 runs and 16 runs.

Abdulla contributed 17 runs to the Uripok innings to reach 119/4 from 24.1 overs to claim a six-wicket victory.

Cachar Road bowlers Seityajit, Henry, Bode and Prem Singh bagged a wicket each.

Earlier, Cachar Road Athletic Union put up 118/10 from 33 overs with Bimol Singh hitting 28 runs and Rohendro Singh scoring 25 runs.

However, the wickets tumbled and Gopeshor Singh managed just 17 runs among the other notable contributors.

Uripok Cricket Club bowler Tarun Singh claimed three wickets and was later named Man of the Match. Saroj Singh and Pinkey fetched two wickets each.

Civil Services tennis: Manipur Secretariat Department sailed into the semi-final of the 21st Manipur Civil Services Tennis Championship at Officers Club, Lamphelpat.

In the quarter-final, Secretariat Department beat Agriculture Department by 2-0 sets en route to the semi-final where it will meet IFCD Department tomorrow.

Altogether 36 players will feature in the singles, doubles and team events.

Challenge Cup: The 14th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament was postponed because of rain and is likely to resume from April 14 at Mapal Kangjeibung.
