Visakhapatnam: For man of the match Rohit Sharma, the idea was to stay calm under pressure conditions. At the post match presentation ceremony, Rohit said, “I kept calm and I always knew that we could achieve the target if we take it till the end… I thought if we can put pressure on Dan Christian at the start of the over, he might succumb.”
The following are excerpts
Harbhajan Singh: I was fielding at the covers… I asked the bowler as well. I could see the bails coming off and the ball hit the stumps. We wanted the on-field umpires to refer the decision to the TV umpire because we were not sure. It would have been nice of the umpires to go up earlier and arrive at the right decision. But in the end, I think we all play a fair game and I am glad that they took the right decision.I think our initial target was to get Kumar out. Once we achieved that, we knew that we could restrict them to 150 odd runs.
Kumar Sangakkara: I asked the wicket-keeper and the umpire whether the ball had hit the stumps. Both of them said no. That was it and then they went upstairs. The right decision was made at the end. I think we were probably 15-20 runs short. Still, it could have proved to be enough… They needed 18 runs off the last over. But Rohit Sharma batted magnificently to get them there.
Rohit Sharma: The only idea was to stay calm under pressure situations. I always knew that we could achieve the target if we take it till the end… The idea was not to give any wickets to Dale Steyn in the penultimate over. But we lost the wicket of Dinesh Karthik. I thought if we can put pressure on Dan Christian at the start of the over, he might succumb. In the last over, we needed 18 runs. (James) Franklin got a four in the first ball and I thought the dive on the second last ball was what saved us. We needed this win very badly. We lost the second game and needed to win this to gain momentum. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum in the future games.
