Guwahati, April 6: Ankurjyoti Club prevailed over Navajyoti Club by 20 runs in a group league match of the Bhupen Chandra Mahanta Guwahati Sports Association first division cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.
Ankurjyoti won the toss and elected to bat to be all out for 169 in 35 overs. In their reply, Navajyoti Club were bowled out for 149 in 31.3 overs.
Ambar Bhattacharya topscored for Ankurjyoti with 51 runs, hitting four boundaries. Harpreet Singh (27, 4x1, 6x2), Deepjyoti Rabha (21, 6x2) and Aditya Baruah (18, 4x1) were the other notable scorers for Ankurjyoti. Bhaskarjyoti Barman of Navajyoti took the scalp of three for 19 and Bitop Mahanta chipped in with two for 30.
For Navajyoti, former Ranji player Nishanta Bordoloi topscored with 49 (4x6) and Arminder Singh Oberoi chipped in with 17 (6x1).
Ambar Bhattacharya came handy with the ball too, picking up three for 42, while Harpreet Singh and Himangshu Thakuria shared two wickets each for 24 and 27 runs respectively.
Despite the defeat today, Navajyoti finished second in Group A behind Food Corporation of India SC, to qualify for the knockouts.
In tomorrow’s group league match, River Rine Club will meet Navarang Club.
