More care for script evaluation

- Seba wary of mistakes

Guwahati, April 5: The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (Seba) will take extra care in evaluation of answer scripts of general science paper of 700 matric examinees of Jorhat and Dhemaji districts who had to take the exam twice.

A source told The Telegraph that according to plan, answer scripts of examinees of Jorhat and Dhemaji districts who will reappear for the general science paper on April 10 will be evaluated by a selected group of teachers to prevent any mistakes in allotment of marks to candidates.

The answer scripts might be brought to the Seba headquarters in the city to ensure evaluation under constant monitoring of the board’s officials, the source said.

Seba has also worked out a mechanism to ensure zero per cent error in evaluation of answer scripts of all examinees.

On March 26, 700 students at two centres in Jorhat and Dhemaji districts sat for the general science paper, which was leaked earlier.

The following day, Seba rescheduled the exam for the said paper. The examinees will have to sit for the exam again on April 10.

Seba chairman Shantikam Hazarika, disappointed over the question paper goof-up in the matric examinations, instructed the board officials to take extreme caution while evaluation of answer scripts. “The board cannot afford to commit any more mistakes and has to initiate special measures to ensure an error-free matric results,” the source said.

Seba’s decision comes close on the heels of the All Assam Students’ Union warning to the board that it would compel the Seba top brass to quit if any irregularities or discrepancies were found in the matric results, scheduled to be declared next month.

Hazarika said students suffered because of irresponsibility of a few persons involved in the examination centres.

He said Seba would leave no stone unturned to declare the matric examinations results in time without any mistakes.

The sanctity of examinations will be maintained under any circumstance when the general science paper exams will be held in Jorhat and Dhemaji districts on April 10, he said.

A source said the process of evaluation has already been initiated by Seba and instructions have been issued to evaluators to remain cautious and alert when they check the answer scripts.
