Guwahati, April 3: A beleaguered Railway Board suffered yet another eight-wicket defeat at the hands of North Eastern Railway in the 57th all-India inter-railway cricket tournament at Judges Field here today.
Winning the toss, Railway Board elected to bat and were skittled out for 75 in 22.1 overs. N-E Railway achieved the target losing two wickets in 9.2 overs. V.P. Gill (20) was the top-scorer for Railway Board while T. Tyagi remained not out on 19. Sushil Kumar also contributed 11.
Amit Kanujiya of N-E Railway ripped apart the Railway Board innings with a haul of four for five runs in tandem with Agha Shahid who scalped three for 23 and Rakesh Gupta with a notch of two for 12. For N-E Railway, Pramod Rai scored 34 and Dipankar Malviya remained unbeaten on 13. Sanjay Rao and A.K. Dogra picked up a wicket each. N-E Railway claimed a bonus point along with the four points for the emphatic victory. In another match at NF Railway Stadium in Maligaon, South Eastern Railway defeated South Western Railway by 65 runs. Put to bat, S-E Railway piled up 310 for seven in the 50 overs and then bowled out SW Railway batsmen for 245 in 45.3 overs.
Bhima Rao topscored for S-E railway with a hurricane 69, hitting two fours and eight sixes off his 31-ball innings. S.P. Gautam (50) and Soham Ghosh (45) were the other main scorers for the side.
Prathamesh Solanki of SW Railway took the scalp of four for 55. Nitin Pillay (70) and Solanki (48) were the main scorers. Soham Ghosh of S-E Railway picked up three wickets for 54 runs while Anirban Dutta and Amit Banerjee shared two each for 30 and 36.
Dibrugarh team: The Dibrugarh District Judo Association has named a 41-member team to represent the district in the All Assam Inter-District Judo Championship to be held at Barpeta Road on April 7 and 8.
