Shillong to host TT meet

Shillong, March 29: Shillong is all set to host the 12th South Asia Federation Junior Table Tennis Championship at the indoor stadium of the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex from June 17-19.

The Meghalaya government will be the principal sponsor of the championship, a first of its kind to be held in the state, where 86 participants from countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and the Maldives will participate.

The tournament will be organised by the Meghalaya Table Tennis Association after the approval of the Table Tennis Federation of India.

Chief minister Mukul Sangma today said the government would provide logistical and other necessary support for the tournament.

While hosts India will be putting up two teams for the event, no player from the state is likely to feature in the teams.
