Shops gutted
Fires broke out in three commercial establishments in the city on Monday. A garments shop on the ground floor of a five-storey building on Pageya Patty Road in Burrabazar caught fire around 9.30am. Two tenders doused the flames in 15 minutes. Clothes and documents were damaged. At 10.20am, an LPG cylinder leak led to a fire at an eatery in Bansdroni. Firefighters took an hour to douse the flames.
he third fire broke out around 2pm in a godown of Calcutta Ahmedabad Transport on Maharshi Debendra Road in Jorabagan. Five tenders put out the fire by 2.45pm.
Injured: A 65-year-old man, Prasanta Sinha, was injured in an arm when he tried to resist robbers who broke into his Nimta house early on Monday. The gang fled after neighbours got alerted by the commotion.
Found dead: The decomposed body of Nandita Basu, a 75-year-old widow, was found inside her Haridevpur home on Monday. She lived alone.
Burglary: Burglars broke into a Baruipur school late on Sunday and escaped with fans, utensils, cash and documents. |
