Calcutta, March 22: Forward Bloc leader and former food and supplies minister Naren De was interrogated for over four-and-a-half hours by the CID today in connection with a Rs 200-crore iron ore scam.
De did not speak to reporters.
K. Jayaraman, the DIG (operations), CID, said De was quizzed because he was the chairman of the West Bengal Essential Commodities Supply Corporation Limited (WBECSCL) when it had bagged a deal to supply iron ore fines to a Chinese company before the Beijing Olympics.
The consignments, which were rejected on the ground of poor quality, did not return to India. Two former WBECSCL MDs were arrested earlier in connection with the scam.
