New Delhi: Sports minister Ajay Maken said on Wednesday he would initiate an inquiry on how the six dope-tainted athletes were training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre at Sonepat.
As per the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) code, an athlete, who has been declared ineligible to take part in any competition, cannot use the facilities of any organisation, who are following Wada rules.
Maken said: This is a serious matter. We are enquiring into it as to how these girls were practising there. As far as the government is concerned, there was no involvement and no fund was given.
According to Sai sources, all the six athletes — Ashwini AC, Sini Jose, Mandeep Kaur, Juana Murmu, Priyanka Panwar and Tiana Mary Thomas — have been practising at Sonepat even after being suspended for dope offence.
