New Delhi: Three former India captains and Padma Shri awardees — PK Banerjee, Chuni Goswami and Bhaichung Bhutia would be in Delhi on Thursday to welcome Fifa president Sepp Blatter.
The trio has been specially invited by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to meet the Fifa boss when he arrives from Kathmandu after the inauguration of the AFC Challenge Cup. The former captains would also be present in the official dinner.
An AIFF official said Blatter will meet prime minister Manmohan Singh and may apprise him of Indias chances of hosting the under-17 World Cup in 2017. The Fifa president will also meet the AIFF executive committee.
Blatters visit is also being seen by the AIFF as an opportunity to push forward Indias wish to host the 2017 under-17 World Cup. Blatter had earlier visited India in 2007. He also went to Calcutta to watch the I-League match between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.
