Two hurt in Jorhat robbery

Jorhat, March 3: Two gunmen looted a bag containing Rs 11.58 lakh from a Bolero at a railway level crossing at Cinnamara on Jorhat-Mariani Road here at 1.30pm today.

They shot at the driver of the vehicle and the accountant of Kharikotia tea estate, who was carrying the money from a bank to the estate near Mariani. The driver, Jagganath Gorik, and the accountant, Amit Sarma, who received at least two bullet injuries each, have been admitted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Police said two youths on a Pulsar motorcycle, which did not have a number plate, were following the Bolero. When the car stopped at the level crossing, they whisked out a pistol and fired at the duo.

Ornaments looted: Robbers decamped with gold and silver ornaments from the Durga Mandir on the premises of Shri Shri Ashram Kalidham at Borkona in Dhubri district last night, reports our correspondent from Dhubri.
