800 not out in ODIs!

India became the first team in ODIs to play in 800 matches. Here’s India’s record: Wins 394, Losses 365, Ties 6, No results 35, Win% 49.25

Shane Watson, who became Australia’s 20th ODI captain, has never captained a side in any form of cricket except in an IPL match for the Rajasthan Royals, vs Kings XI Punjab (Mohali, May 28, 2008). The Royals had lost that match.

Incidentally, only two Aussie captains Steve Waugh (218 matches) & Ian Healy (147) had played more matches than Watson (141) before captaining the side for the first time.

Sachin Tendulkar has not been dismissed for a duck since the Chennai Test against South Africa, on March 29, 2008. Since then, in 114 innings & in 3 years 10 months and 29 days he has not been dismissed for a duck in any format. Tendulkar is still far off from the International record (in all formats) of no ducks in 173 innings held by teammate Rahul Dravid from January 2000 to February 2004 (4 years and 27 days).

Ben Hilfenhaus has so far claimed 27 ODI wickets. The batsmen he has dismissed most times are Heschelle Gibbs and Brendon McCullum (three times), and Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (twice).

Shane Watson’s 2/9 (off 5 overs) is statistically the best figures by an Aussie captaining the side for the first time. Ian Chappell, though not on debut as captain, had figures of 2/14 (off 4 overs), against Sri Lanka, at the Oval, in the 1975 World Cup, when he got to bowl for the first time as a skipper.
